You can sign up on your own, but a tenancy can only be added by the landlord or letting agent who keeps the record of it.

Who this is for: tenants.

What you are deciding

How to get your tenancy to appear.

Your options

  • Ask to be invited at the address you use here. Your tenancy appears the next time you sign in. You do not need to sign up again.
  • Sign in with the address that was invited. An invitation is tied to the address it was sent to.
  • Your landlord or agent does not use Abide.Rent. They do not have to. You can keep your account, and your tenancy will appear if they start using it.

How to do it

  1. Check which email address you signed up with. It is shown under Your account.
  2. Ask your landlord or letting agent to invite you to your tenancy using that exact email address.
  3. When they do, you receive an email. Your tenancy then appears the next time you sign in.

A worked example

Sam signs up on Monday 5 October 2026 with his personal address and sees no tenancy. His agent had invited his work address on Friday 2 October; that invitation lasts 14 days, to Friday 16 October. Sam asks the agent to send the invitation to his personal address instead. It arrives on Tuesday 6 October, and his tenancy is there when he next signs in.

What Abide.Rent does for you

  • Shows the email address you signed up with under Your account.
  • Adds your tenancy to your account as soon as an invitation to your address is accepted.
  • Keeps an invitation to the address it was sent to, so nobody else can use it.

If something goes wrong

  • “This invitation was cancelled. Ask for a new one.”
What to do: Ask the landlord or agent to send a new invitation.
  • You signed up yourself and see nothing
What to do: The tenancy is linked to the email the landlord holds. Ask them to check it.

Common mistakes

  • Creating a second account with another address. Ask for the invitation to be sent to the one you use.
  • Waiting without telling your agent which address you signed up with.
