Notices and service: what the API will and won’t do

The API generates and records notices. It never serves one. Here is exactly where the line is.

You can, over the API Only a person, in the product
Generate a notice from the file (POST /issued-documents) Decide to serve it
Read notices, their status and responses Sign it (/sign needs a signed-in person — an API key gets PERSON_REQUIRED)
Record a notice served before Abide.Rent (/historic) Serve it and record the channel and time (/record_service)

Why: service is a legal act with consequences for the tenant’s home. The record of who served it, how and when is the evidence. A script cannot be that person.

A tenant’s answer — accept, query or refer to the tribunal — is recorded with POST /issued-documents/{id}/respond from the tenant workspace. A Section 8 notice cannot be referred (SECTION_8_NOT_REFERRABLE).
